Art Nouveau Oval Bowl - Red Elm

Description

I just finished this shaped oval bowl from spalted Slippery Elm (also known as Red Elm, Ulmus Rubrum). This is the first time I have worked this wood since it is quite rare for use in furniture. The reason for this is that Elm is dimensionally unstable as it dries. Since it is also a hard wood, the primary use for elm is in Pallets. I have dried the wood as I hand carved the mirror image shape and refined it as it moved.

It measures 7 1/4 inches long and 4 1/2 inches wide. It stands 2 3/4 inches tall. The inner bowl dimensions are 5 3/8" long, 3 3/4" wide and 1 1/8" deep.

Thoroughly sealed with half a dozen coats of polyurethane varnish for lasting permanence.

Signed, dated and the material identified on the bottom.

I will ship internationally, but the fees and permissions for import must be calculated on a per case basis.
