Grandmothers House

"Grandmother's House" is a 2-color lithograph printed onto Rives BFK paper. It measures 11" x 14" and is one of an edition of 12.

"What is lithography?" you're probably asking yourself. Well, I don't have enough room to break it all down for you here, but it involved a man named Senefelder many, many years ago and still lives on today, mostly in the form of high volume commercial printing with photoplates. I printed "Grandmother's House" the old Senefelder way though. In a nutshell, I drew on a finely sanded (or "levigated") limestone with a greasy crayon, etched it with acid, covered it with things like gum arabic and asphaltum, and after several other steps, I sponged the limestone with water, rolled it up with ink, and ran it through the press. Lithography is fun and makes you buff from all of that limestone lifting - I highly recommend it.

The shipping cost includes insurance. I don't like to ship art without it, hence the higher cost. A blank book or a set of stationery is easy to replace, a small edition etching, litho, or artist's book is not. I like to take precautions.
