Rhode..... a felt Oceanid

Description

In Greek mythology, Rhode was one of the eldest Oceanids, a daughter of Tethys and Oceanus.

In Rhodes, to which she gave her name, she was the consort of Helios, and a co-protector of the island, which was the sole center of her cult. Her name was applied to the rose, which appeared on Rhodian coinage.

The first inhabitants of Rhodes were named the Telchines. Helios made the island rise from the sea and with Rhode, fathered seven sons there.

Rhode is wet felted and formed from blue,green, white and brown merino wool. Her face is clay and glazed a dark turquiose. She has a gorgeous piece of seaglass mounted in her hair with silver wire. Her staff is marsh cedar and incredible pieces of lampwork. The beads are held on with silver wire. You really need to see the sun hit this staff, it really just glows. I really love the way Rhode evolved, she is very striking, and demands attention and touch. She is somewhat poseable, and has a weight inside to help with balance.
