Port Hole to the Sky

Description

Another in my brass locket series. The cover of this locket is actually made of three pieces--two pieces of cut floral print brass and a solid copper washer soldered in place to frame the "port hole". I've colored the locket front with blue/green patina, then polished the high points to a lovely sheen. The base of the locket is reversed floral print brass cut and hammered to form the locket hollow, accented with hammered texture. Inside sits a 15mm round cut of a Peruvian blue morpho butterfly wing under clear mineral crystal set in sterling silver. The color of the wing is electric, vibrant blue. Really amazing. I've accented the set wing with a 4mm faceted peridot set in sterling silver and organic dots of sterling silver shot. The locket is hinged with brass and hung from a sterling silver bail on to 18 inches of mixed metal chain--brass circles to one side, a sterling silver circle accent with copper to the other, finished with gold colored link chain. The clasp is a copper "S" hook.

Gorgeous on the neck, the blue morpho wing blazes through the copper window like an electric light!
