Medium: Soft pastels on primed Bristol board

This is a small series of drawings in different formats, done to explore the reflections of trees in a dark pond. They are based on a series of plein air sketches and drawings on a local landmark near the place where I grew up in North West Germany. The stillness of the pond in winter is offset by the use of some vibrant orange, dark greens and light yellow hues.

I often prepare the support for my pastel and mixed media paintings myself. For this series, I used a large sheet of Bristol Board, applied a few layers of pumice gel and then proceeded with an acrylic underpainting in raw umber, dioxazine purple and Payne’s Grey. The umber and a bit of purple, as well as the brushmarks form an integral part of the drawing. Some of the pieces in this series ended up with some unusual formats like this one here.

For all my artwork I use only high quality artist materials - supports, media and matting. It will be carefully packaged and posted to you in a flat cardboard backed envelope.
