Tumbler

Description

A tall cup for your drinking pleasure. These feel great to hold in your hand. I throw each one of these on the wheel in small batches, so each is similar but still unique.

Each piece is hand stamped with a "W" that shows the mark of the potter, which is a unique element of design that I add to my work. This square jar form is my signature piece that I make, and has been a form I have worked to perfect over time.

As with all of my pottery, the surface decoration is the direct result of the firing process. The flame of the wood burning kiln encircles the pottery leaving behind traces, depositing ash, and flashing the surface of each piece in a distinct manner. Additional variation on the surface comes from the soda vapors swirling through the kiln in the final hours. The result is pottery which presents a record of the firing process, with warm earth tones and variation from side to side.

Interior: light blue celedon glaze
