Image: I often get asked how I get my inspiration and I tell people that it's the wood; I pick up a piece of wood and "it talks to me". Of course I get many weird looks, but the point is...the images are already there! These boxwood rounds speak loudly and I enjoy making little fantasy worlds inside of them. This particular one came to me during an early drive from a festival...heading home once more.

Image: This one "appeared" to me during a festival in which a group of academic artists looked around my booth with a tad of disdain. Two of the young students remained when all others left and one of them smiled approvingly and asked me if I was happy. It struck me, not if I was making money or if I enjoyed myself or if I was making the art I wanted to make, but just "are you happy?". I replied: "Of course! I chose this life and never looked back."

Process: Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big "stamp" of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper.

All my woodcuts are made in limited editions, signed and numbered in pencil.
