Tea Cup with Bird Handle--3 of 5
Description
(Note: cups 1 and 4 were sold on 2/18, and cup 2 on 11/22). This is one of two remaining. This graceful teacup features the head of a curlew, a type of shorebird known for its long, down curving bill which it uses to probe in the mud and sand. The face, neck, and bill are delicately carved and rest atop a large, rounded, very comfortable handle. Each cup is light weight and feels great in the hand.
Cone 10, high fire stoneware, glazed with lead free, food safe, Shino and Gold Gloss glazes.
Capacity is just a bit over 1 cup. Height is about 3 1/2", width is just under 4" (not including the rather wide handle).
They really are special, whether bought singly or as a set. Each one has its own unique charm, differing slightly in color, shape, and proportion, but still matching nicely with the others.
Hand washing recommended.
