Cakeasaurus, Print One (original woodblock print)

Description

Finally, you meet –the being for which my etsy shop was named! He has been around for quite some time, though this is perhaps the first documentation of this spirited character. It is as you may expect—he is rather a cross between monster and dinosaur, and his food fetish is cake. He can, in fact, sense a cake being made from miles away, just as sharks smell blood in the water. He comes; he takes your cake. He feels no remorse.

The Spanish text at the bottom is a reverse play on the more gracious, “My house is your house” – “Sus pasteles son mis pasteles.” Your cakes are my cakes. There is trouble afoot, obviously.

I carved this design into a single woodblock and hand-pulled an edition of 42. I used oil-based ink on white mulberry paper. The image measures 8 ¼ ” high by 5 ½ “ wide.
