Lapis Lazuli Necklace

Description

A gorgeous free-form lapis cabochon is set in sterling silver. Three small decorative balls made of fine silver are placed in the lower corner. The lapis is a rich blue colour with some small pyrite inclusions and just a few small white streaks.

Sterling silver tube and wire form the unique bail from which the pendant is suspended.

The pendant is approximately 1 7/8” (4.8 cm) long by 1 1/8” (2.9 cm) at its widest point. It hangs on a navy blue Greek leather cord. The cord ends and spiral clasp are made with sterling silver wire.

The cord with the clasp is 17 ½” (44.5 cm) long, plus a 2 ½” (6.5 cm) sterling silver extender chain.

Did you know that Cleopatra used ground lapis as eyeshadow? Lapis lazuli was one of the first stones to be used in jewelry and was considered to be worthy of royalty. When you see the rich blue colour of this piece, you can easily understand why lapis has been cherished for so long.
