Kuan Yin is also known as the Goddess of Compassion. Her name, Kuan Shih Yin, means Regarder of the Cries of the World. She compassionately refrains from entering nirvana in order to save other sentient beings from suffering. In all the many stories about Kuan Yin, a common theme is that if you call her, she will come to you.

She is usually seen holding a vase of healing pure water and the branch of a willow tree. And here she wears the Pearl of Light she received as a gift.

Thank you to Renn Tumlison for allowing me to use his very beautiful photo of the anntennae of a luna moth. I felt like it was appropriate to indicate her receptivity and awareness. I take a lot of sky photographs, and was happy to find a use for them. The gown was collaged from an 18th century moth illustration by Albertus Seba. The face was collaged from several beautiful women. The weeping willow branch was from one that grows in my yard. The dragon boat came from a thrift store and was originally much longer and more Viking-like. Too much information?

This of course, is just one artist's interpretation.


This print is made on high quality professional luster paper which is archival and will last for generations. The printed area measures 8 inches by 10.5 inches on an 8.5x11 inch white paper. The print will arrive signed, dated and packaged in a clear cello sleeve, with a carboard protection.
