Chrysalis sterling silver and moonstone Absinthe Spoon

This gorgeous silver absinthe spoon is a creation from my OCAC days. Chrysalis is one of three absinthe designs I created as part of a production line class. Truth be told I was supposed to be designing wedding jewelry because there is a good market for it, but I was bored to tears by wedding research. The lurid history of absinthe was far more creatively stimulating. (I hate to admit it, but sometimes I fit the "artist" stereotype.)

Not to overly romanticize a time when the green liquor was cheaper than bread, but there is a certain allure to the ritual and mystique surrounding absinthe. And what ritual is complete without the proper implements? If you're treating yourself to a slow cold dripped absinthe, make the experience all the finer with a handcrafted silver spoon.

Chrysalis was hand pierced from 18 gauge sterling silver sheet and shaped with a mallet and wooden forms. This flowing natural form measures nearly 7 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. The gem in the handle is a bezel set a 5mm round white moonstone.

Although originally intended as an edition, only two Chrysalis spoons were created and I am keeping one for myself.
