One Thousand Intelligent Eyes - fused glass, slate and mesquite wood sculpture

Since the beginning of space travel there have been almost 500 humans, a few simians and a dog or two hurled above the Earth's atmosphere and into the rarefied ether of space. What they see has been captured on film by Lieca, Zeiss, and other lenses, but can film and lens ever capture what is truly there to see? Those of us still tethered on the ground can only dream and imagine from the descriptions those few space travelers have given us.

This sculptural wall mounted piece dares to dream that the beauty of its orbs floating on the gray of slate above the larger sea of red mesquite may capture some of the wonder of the view outside a space ship window.

Hand worked native Texas mesquite is coupled with hand hewn Irish slate to provide the striking backdrop to the hand fused glass of the planetary bodies. The glass was kiln formed in our Texas studio and includes some of the dichroic glass originally developed for satellite mirrors.

The piece measures approximately 36 inches tall, 16 inches wide and 6 inches deep. It is designed to be displayed attached or hung on an opaque wall.
