HOW DO WE GET STARTED?
------------------------------------------------------

All you need to do is send high-quality photos, taken in very good lighting situations (no "studio portraits" please!) I prefer to work from outdoor shots whenever possible (look through those photos you took at the park or the beach, for example). Do not worry about who or what else is in the photo, as I will be picking out fun details to paint anyway. I usually prefer to crop right into the subject's face, as you can see in my sample portraits.

If you are browsing through your photos, trying to find good ones for portraits, I strongly recommend ones that are either taken in sunlight, with a bit of shadow for interest, and/or photos where your child is "at rest" or pensive. The best portraits are those where the subject is at their most natural and not smiling.

WHAT IF I DON'T LOVE IT?

Your satisfaction is completely guaranteed - if you don't love the finished painting (turnaround time is about 4 weeks) then I will refund your payment and either keep the portrait for my personal collection or list it for sale in my shop if the subject matter is marketable.

I will package your painting with plastic & a cardboard casing so that it won't bend or warp in transit. Shipping service is UPS shipping ($18 flat rate / 5 day delivery / almost anywhere in the USA)

I won't ship a custom painting without insurance, and UPS is my carrier of choice because they get it done right.

Yeah, well don't we all?

If you want a group painting, first consider these points about a single subject:

1) when it comes time to pass along the portrait, each person can take their own portrait home.

2) if the size of the family changes, you can add another separate portrait without it looking out of place

3) you can find the absolute BEST photo of each person for the portrait.

4) when you have several people in one photo, chances are that the portrait will look "posed", which I try to avoid when painting.

5) it looks great on a wall having several similar portraits grouped together, even if they are different sizes.
