Vintage Men's Suit - Reworked for Women (approx. Sz. 14-16)

Description

I purchased this 50s or 60s men's suit in a vintage shop in Wisconsin in the mid-90s. Their seamstress took men's suits and reworked them for women by adding an array of buttons and trims to the lapel and pocket.

These buttons and trims are primarily black, purple and silver, with some pinks thrown in to pick up the purple-ish/pink in the black Mohara fabric. The left lapel and right hip pocket are trimmed with a swirl of buttons; the breast pocket is highlighted by a spray of pink lace, held by a silver buckle.

The three-button jacket is in very good condition, other than a tiny bit of damage near the top button (see the close up of the lapel to see where the moths got to it). All buttons are plastic and intact. I'm uncertain if they are original or have been replaced. All pocket linings are intact and have no holes.

The pants are still wearable, but are in rougher shape; they probably could be repaired or reworked by someone more talented than I. There is a small L-shaped tear near the back left pocket (next to the quarter in the photo) and the crotch has been moth-eaten. A small spot at the bottom of the metal zipper also has a bit of moth damage. All pocket linings are intact and have no holes.

This fits a women's size 14-16 best. I'm 5'4" and the pants length was perfect without alteration, but there is fabric to lengthen them since they're cuffed. The waist is about 38" and the inseam about 28". The length from the collar to back hem is 30"; the sleeves are about 25" from shoulder to cuff.

Any white bits you see in the photos are cat hair; I will give this a good brushing before I ship it! Mine is a smoke-free home.
