Celestial Earrings in Amber Dichroic

Description

These purposely mismatched amber yellow star and moon earrings are handmade from dichroic glass in my rural Ohio studio. All of the metal is sterling silver, which is 92.5% silver, 7.5% copper for people with allergy concerns. Each earring measures just under 1/2" (1.1 cm) wide by 1 1/2" (3.9 cm) long, and each earring features a Bali silver flower bead and two cylindrical hematite beads.

Dichroic glass was originally invented by NASA, but it found its home with glass artists. Dichroic - which means two color in Greek - is a perfect name for this glass, as it has two (or more) colors that show up depending on the light. Most of the time these earrings will appear a beautiful amber color, but if you look at the last photo, the secondary color - a green-blue in this case - shows up.

These are the real thing: I start with sheets of dichroic glass, etch my designs into them, layer them, etc. I don't use dichroic paper, and all of my jewelry is properly annealed over a period of hours to ensure durability and longevity. Every piece of jewelry I make is one of a kind, (yes, I keep an inventory of every pair I make) and each piece is signed and dated.
