Description

This raku vase was thrown by me on my potter's wheel and raku fired at Bear's Mill in Greenville, Ohio (see www.BearsMill.com) with the Bear's Mill Potters. Raku pottery is not functional, but decorative. I added a star with a spiral on the front for added texture. It was so exciting to see how the color flew up to the star!

If you aren't familiar with the Raku firing process, it is much more labor intensive that standard kiln firing. This is why you'll notice that raku and wood fired pots are usually more expensive. For raku, we throw the pots, let them dry, then bisque fire them in the kiln. Then, we mix up special raku glazes, glaze the pots...the videos will take over from here! It's very hot and you end up breathing smokey glaze chemicals--yuck! The firing can take all day long. But, potters love this challenge and the thrill of having your pot emerge from the metal trash cans with flashes of color on them!

Height: 10.5 inches or 26.5 cm tall
Vase opening: 2.75 inches or 7 cm wide
Base: 2.75 inches or about 7 cm wide.

Please note: The copper matte glaze on raku pots is very difficult to photograph!! I shot them outside in natural light and when sizing them in "Photoshop" I tried to get them as accurate as possible to the real life colors. Everyone' monitor sees glazes differently, so it may look different in person.

I ship worldwide. If you are interested, please "convo" me and I'll get a quote for you. Thanks for looking!
