El Muerte (Original Collage)

Description

Dia de los Muertos is a celebration which occurs from late October early November.Dia de los Muertos = The Day of the Dead. This is a very special celebration that I learned about when I lived in Tucson,Arizona. It is my favorite festivity.

This is a celebration of the dead. An altar is erected, adorned with the following very colorful special items: skeleton (calavera) skulls made of sugar and decorated beautifully with colorful icing and/or beads (whatever you would like to use),marigolds as the dead's favorite flower,water for the dead to drink,pictures of the dead ones,special bread or "pan" and pastries are made for the living and the dead to share.It is a wonderful expression of love and celebration of the dead one's life and appreciation/respect from the living.

The celebration usually starts with a procession in the streets and winds up in a church or gathering place for the festivities. I was told the procession is to awaken the loved ones to celebrate with the living and gathers along the way,those who wish to participate.If you have never participated in this absolutely wonderful festival,I encourage you to do so.It is colorful and personal yet shared with all those who have lost someone close and/or meaningful to them.
It is a time of reflection on the lives of people you have lost and the celebration of the life they lived.

This is an original collage, paper prayer. This is a "Paper Prayer." It's format is a standard 10inches x 4 inches and can be made of anything you desire. The Paper Prayer was originally created by Japanese artists who wanted their art to instill health and well-being to all.

This piece was constructed on 10x4 piece of Mi-Tientes paper with handmade paper. It was then mounted on an 11x14 piece of mat board in order for it to fit a standard size 11x14 frame. This piece comes with a certificate of authenticity and shipped in a clear poly sleeve, in a stay flat mailer. It is mailed to you ensuring its safe arrival.
