abandoned - lambertville high school

Description

This is an original mixed media/assemblage/collage painting on panels. the two panels are permanently attached.

the inner panel is approximately 12" (30cm) square and the outside panel is 16" (40cm) square.

it is unframed.

Abandoned: Lambertville High School is part of a new series i'm working on of old abandoned places.

i visited there recently, and it is in pretty bad shape.
it sits WAY up on a big hill overlooking the cute little town of lambertville, nj. it was built in 1854 and had a fire in 1926. it is rumored that over 150 students and staff were killed in that fire. they remodeled it in 1927 and was closed in the 50's. another fire struck in the 70's. the roof was burned and since, floors have caved in down to the ground.

there are lots of scary stories there, and the place looks much different now from those photographs.

the glass used in this piece is an actual piece of glass from the school. there was broken glass all over the ground, and i didn't think it would miss one piece ;)

the faces that appear in the painting are drawings i did from the chalkboard drawings that were in the school.

they were amazing (i don't think they are still there), and nobody knows who did them. at least i couldn't find out...
