This is a scan of a French Happy New Year (Bonne Annee) postcard -- but the little Edwardian/Victorian girl looks anything but happy. In fact, I call this photo "Too Blue." One wonders so about the stories behind the faces .... like this little girl here who is dressed so elegantly and yet, her fingernails are dirty enough that it shows up in the photo! Was she a sad little orphan pulled off the street for this photo shoot? I think postcards are a perfect tool to help writers with writer's block. IF looking at these images doesn't fire up the brain cells, then...check your pulse:) My original postcard is not dated, but I can confidently say this is a pre-WWI image. Now, I have cleaned this image up a lot in Photoshop, but for every speck and spot I cleaned up, there are 2 more left to verify its antique status. IF you print this out at regular postcard size (about 5 by 3 inches), it will likely look in mint condition. IF you enlarge it to full letter size, then you will see the blemishes inherent to the printing and the signs of age. Either way, it's a stunning image!
