Hammered Industrial Fleur De Lis on 24 in Chain

Industrial Fleur pendant is 1 inch across. It is cast from a class project that I was pleased with and strung on a nice long 24 in. chain with a 6mm freshwater pearl at the bottom.

The assignment was to design and pierce (drill and cut out) a shape in a 1 inch diameter circle that included curvilinear and angular sections. I took a basic fleur de lis pattern and added some hooks and then sharpened the curves into corners for a more industrial look. I cut this from 16 g. sheet, following the design with more precision than I have ever executed anything in my life. Next, every single edge was hand filed and taken down to about 600 grit paper. Then I held my breath and dapped it into a dome without blowing out the details in the center, and finally polished it to a mirror shine.

I tend to improvise in my own work and am much more casual about following the plans I start out with, so this exacting process was a sometimes painful but thoroughly rewarding challenge.

After all that I decided I really liked the design and wanted to see it with different finishes. So this cast piece has been, clipped, trimmed, polished, tumbled, and hammered (that part was particularly fun), oxidized and polished again.

It is cast from 100% recycled and refined high quality sterling silver.
