Rosary of New Jade with Lourdes Water Centerpiece

This is a traditional five-decade Catholic rosary handmade from 8-mm beads of polished New Jade beads.

The crucifix reproduces the design of the crucifix in the Basilica of Lourdes, in base metal. The heart-shaped center has a profile of the Virgin Mary and contains a small vial of water from Lourdes. The chain is handmade from base-metal eye-pins and small segments of manufactured connective chain, also base metal.

The overall length of the rosary is 25.5 inches.
The loop of the rosary has a circumference of 35 inches.
The crucifix is 1.75 x 1.25 inches.
The center is 1.0 x 1.0 inches.

"New Jade" is a trade name used to refer to either of two metamorphic silicates, "nephrite" or "jadeite", or else it's a variety of serpentine, which is itself sometimes confused with jade! (Sources are not clear about exactly what "new jade" is, but it is natural, un-dyed mineral.) The translucent beads have a soft, warm, light gray-green color and a glossy, satiny finish. The beads do show some variation in shades, as in the photographs.

"Base metal" is an alloy unspecified by our suppliers in which nickel usually predominates.
