Twilit Roses Tatted and Crocheted Choker

I admit it, I’m obsessed with Twilight. As I made my A Rose By Any Other Name choker, this choker started to take shape in my head. I wouldn’t say I improved on the original pattern because I love the way it turned out, but I did change it slightly for this version.

I crocheted the roses with red and white DMC tatting thread and joined them with a black tatted border. The choker attaches with red satin ribbon ties. The tatted piece measures approximately 11” and the entire piece measures 42” so it can easily fit any neck comfortably. The ribbons can be cut down to a smaller length if you so choose. I lightly singed the ends of the ribbon to prevent raveling.

In the center, a frame hangs with the words “Be Safe” and a small apple charm dangles beneath red seed beads and a clear Swarovski crystal. With the charms, the center measures approximately 2 3/4.” The rest of the piece measures about 1” across.

Tatting is a method of making lace dating back to the time of Elizabeth I. The look is achieved by tying tiny knots to create rings and chains. It is a very time consuming and beautiful art. This piece was made using the shuttle tatting method. It represents over 30 hours of work from beginning to end.
