THE DOLLYPOP GUILD and THE CHER WITHIN

Divas played a big role in my formative years, and this set celebrates two of my greatest inspirations - Dolly Parton and Cher. I discovered Dolly when I was a young, repressed gay boy taking my first steps down the yellow brick road to self-acceptance. Cher came a little later, just in time to help introduce me to my own inner diva!

This listing is for the purchase of two limited-edition giclee prints, "The Dollypop Guild" and "The Cher Within," for a 15% savings from their list prices. However, if you are only interested in one, I've included links below to their individual Etsy pages too.

This piece was created for the exhibit "DOLLYPOP" at the World of Wonder Storefront Gallery in Hollywood, California. The exhibit honored my diva-of choice, the fabulous Ms. Dolly Parton! My contribution is based on the scene from "The Wizard of Oz" when Dorothy meets Glinda, only we're not in Kansas anymore, Toto! Dorothy's replaced by a young boy (wearing an oversized pair of red stiletto's, of course) who is watching Dolly descend in a big, pink bubble to welcome him to Dollywood!

My painting “The Cher Within” depicts the magical moment when a drag performer prepares to cross the line between ambiguous guy in his underwear to full-on diva extraordinaire, in this case fashioned after his ultimate heroine, Cher. The painting also represents the diva in everyone, those who have actually taken their sequinned acts to the stage and those who may have offered more intimate performances behind bathroom doors, with towels for wigs and hairbrush microphones. I highly advocate vogueing before any and all reflective surfaces, because with enough imagination (and some extra-long false eyelashes for good measure), you never know who will be looking back at you from the reflection.

Limited edition museum-quality fine art Giclee print made using HiFi Inkjet printer with archival, long life, pigment-based ink on premium semi-glossy photo paper. The print is signed, titled, and dated under the image.

Prints will be sent in a rigid mailing tube USPS First Class.
