Absurd Bird

Description

This is an original copper plate line etching with aquatint and is the seventh in an edition of 100. The image area is 2" x 3" and with the archival matting it will fit into a standard 5" x 7" frame. The plate was inked and printed on my vintage etching press. I've made a series of bird etchings by observing wildlife in my backyard.

I found that when you closely observe them, birds show a lot of personality! This particular bird is a House Finch. House Finches are really West Coast birds that were accidentally introduced in the NYC area decades ago. They adapted well and their range continues to expand outward from NYC. There are a number of urban myths about how they were released and you might like to look it up and see which theory you favor! Perhaps you know someone who needs to be cheered up with this little bird!
