Taken along the marsh trail in La Crosse, Wisconsin

These are the backwaters of the Black, La Crosse, and Mississippi Rivers. Surrounded by cityscape this is an oasis of nature. Ever since I can remember there have been people trying to develope this land, to fill it in and pave it over. This parcel still remains, and is essential for not only the wildlife but the city itself. It is the natural flood control for when the nearby rivers rise.
