MMJ Lampwork- Color Gizmos Series-Fantasy-(9)
Description
Beady Lowdown:I’m back working on my Color Gizmo series. It’s the best way I know to combo two of my most favorite things in the world…color and melting glass. . The mark of this series is lots of color and visual drama.
“Fantasy, if it's really convincing can't become dated for the simple reason that it represents a flight into a dimension that lies beyond the reach of time.”
-Walt Disney
-Number of Beads: 9
-Sizes:
Spacers (2) measure 6mm by 10.5
Lg Nuggets (6) measure 18mm hole to hole and are 8.5mm thick.
Focal (1) measures 37mm hole to hole, 16.5mm wide, and 8mm thick.
-Colors: Opal sky blue with lime, violet, plum, bright blue, aqua, and dark indigo.
Glass Type: 104 COE
-Mandrel Size: 5/64th, a size that will accommodate wire yet also work for stringing; smaller than 3/32nd and larger than 1/16th sized mandrels. The hole is 2mm.
-The pictures are enlarged to show all the neato details and have tried as accurately as my skills allow me, to show the true colors of the beads. Your monitor and my monitor may not show the same shading and hues. There also may be light reflections in the pictures, my photo set up includes the typical photography lighting but I’m a much better beadmaker than photographer.
I use Italian Effetre and Vetrofond or German Lauscha art glass. There are times that I also use either Gaffer, Reichenbach, Zimmerman, or Uroboros. Then there are also times that I use one of the American glasses out now (there is a lot of glass to pick from these days). My beads are made on a surface mix, oxygen-propane torch. I use either a GTT Bobcat, Nortel Minor, or Nortel Red Max. Immediately after each bead is torched, it is placed it a 960 degree pre-heated computer controlled kiln and it held there for proper annealing. This annealing process entails an overnight soak in either a Paragon Bluebird or Chili Pepper kiln. It includes a seven section annealing and ramp down process. My beads are never tossed into a fiber blanket and then batch annealed. Each bead is carefully checked structurally, dremel cleaned, and then the process is repeated. This is to ensure strength and durability of the bead, plus to check my work.
