HOPE Twilight Glass and Silver Necklace with Matching Bracelet
Description
HOPE Twilight Glass and Silver Necklace with Matching BraceletAs a special donation, over 100% of the proceeds - 85% of the sale price - of this item will be donated to charity.
This necklace and bracelet are made with Czech fancy twilight-hued glass, silver on brass ovals, and Czech crystal glass. I love the myriad of shades in the twilight hue of these beads, ranging from deep amethyst purple, to cobalt blue, to emerald green. The necklace is 21” long and has as its center a lovely ceramic pendant, and is finished with a silver on brass barrel clasp. The bracelet matches the necklace is pattern and in beads, and is eight inches long with a silver on brass spring clasp.
The charity that will be benefitted by the sale of this item is Alley Cat Allies. ACA’s mission is “to end the killing of cats and lead the movement for their humane care.” They work to change public policies that support the killing of cats, educate people about how to care for cats, and work to prevent feral cat populations from getting larger than they already are with their trap-neuter-release policy. They envision a world of “society living non-violently with cats and all animals”.
On a personal note:
My parents lived in DC for many years, where they renovated a house in an inner-city neighborhood before moving out here to Albuquerque to take care of my grandparents, who were getting elderly, and to raise my brother and me. While in DC they trapped and spayed or neutered dozens of feral cats. The ones who tamed up, they kept, and the ones who were too wild to adopt, they released and fed. I grew up with the last generation of those no-longer-feral cats, and remember them all fondly. Here in Albuquerque as a family we have continued rescuing cats and dogs we find abandoned on the street. Now we have three wonderful cats – Timmy, whom we caught when he was just a kitten, along with his mother and three brothers (his mother and brothers were more feral than he and now live as the barn cats of a veterinarian in rural Albuquerque); Pao, who was born under a trailer and whom we adopted from the Humane Society; and, our newest arrival, Suma, who adopted us the day before a huge snowstorm hit. My aunt, who lives next door, also raises rescue kitties, and is feeding two feral cats who live out in the garden, named Alfred and Shadowfax. Anyway, my point is that the moral duty, as members of our community, of taking care of stray cats is something we believe in very strongly, and we will be proud to support this charity which does so much to fight euthanasia and help stray cats find homes and better lives. Every creature for whom we can help make life a little better, is a merit to our society and to the world.
