I did this drawing from life while looking at a roadkill opossum that I brought into my room and set up on my desk. By the time I was done it had unthawed and there was opossum blood everywhere. I have great respect for the opossum. It is reputedly one of the stupidest mammals in North America but it is this stupidity from which it derives it's strength and charm. It was strictly a southern mammal until it decided, for no apparent reason, to migrate north in the 1950's. The animal routinely loses bits of its extremities to frostbite and this one had a bone sticking out of the tip of its tail.
