Gingko Leaf Box

Description

This box is inspired by nature's spirit and mystery, life cycles and seasons, a joyful reverence of and a personal connection to the natural world.
The box was hand built from slabs of clay. It is 4 inches tall, about 4 inches wide and 2 inches deep.After the box is bisque fired, it is glazed and raku fired. Then a one of a kind assemblage is added to the unglazed panel on the front of the box. There is a ginkgo leaf, and a row of 5 beach stones from Lake Michigan. One of the stones is wrapped with silver thread, holding 3 pieces of bamboo. The lid of the box is embellished with a fern leaf and a beach stone with 5 small pieces of bamboo wrapped with silver thread.
Hanging from the beach stone on the lid is a collection of charms.....a small glass bottle holding tiny beach stones, a circle of mother of pearl, a juniper seed and a piece of serpentine.

The leaf has been sealed with several coats of acrylic varnish.
