Vintage Library of Congress, Washington, D.C., photochrom art mural postcard circa 1915-1920, # R-29813 published by B.R. Reynolds Co. Unused, 3 3/8 x 5 3/8 inches, very good to excellent condition, front has faintly textured shiny finish, back has smooth matte finish. Slightest corner wear and/or surface wear (visible in photos). No tears or visible creases.From back: "Shakespeare's Adonis by H.O. Walker - Adonis, the young hunter loved by Venus, unmindful of the entreaties of the goddess, left her side to hunt the wild boar, by which he was slain. Venus discovers him.
She looks upon his lips, and they are pale;
She takes him by the hand, and that is cold;
She whispers in his ears a heavy tale,
As if they heard the woeful words she told."
Photochrom technology is a photomechanical technique that originated in Switzerland in the late 1880's, where a color photo lithograph was produced from a black and white negative. Technique was frequently used on postcards prior to WWII.
