SILVER: All metal components in my pieces are either fine or sterling silver, and I incorporate many, many Bali sterling beads into my work, as I appreciate the great attention to detail and the handmade beauty of these beads. The head pins used in these earrings are Bali silver.

CULTURED PEARLS: Pearls are created when small particles inadvertently or purposely become embedded in the tissue of an oyster or clam. In response, the animal secretes nacre. Nacre is a combination of crystalline and organic substances. As the nacre builds up, it surrounds the trapped matter and eventually forms a pearl.

Natural pearls are those formed in nature by chance. In contrast, cultured pearls are created when people implant an object in a mollusk or oyster, thereby inducing the creation of a pearl. The same natural process of pearl creation takes place. Only in the case of cultured pearls, humans lent a helping hand.
