Indigo Waves - Tussah Silk Lace Scarf

I am in love with this scarf. Tussah silk is one of the most luxurious fibers I've had the pleasure of working with. It is often referred to as "peace silk" because unlike traditional silk, the silk worms live naturally and the cocoons are harvested after the moth emerges. It is unbelievably soft and has a gorgeous sheen which you can see in the photos.

The tussah silk yarn I used was handspun by fellow Etsian rootandleaf, and dyed with natural indigo in a traditional vat. The variation in color is simply incredible, and ranges from a brilliant sapphire blue to a pale, almost white blue. It reminds me of the colors you might find looking out at the sea--blue ripples of the water, white crests of the waves, dark cloud shadows on the surface, sea foam along the sand, and the faded blue where the ocean meets the sky...

I used a drop stitch pattern that resembles waves (fitting, right?) that results in a light, airy fabric. This, combined with silk's ability to feel cool in warmer temperatures makes this the perfect scarf for early fall. But it feels so heavenly, you might never want to take it off!

Care instructions:
Handwash extremely gently with a mild detergent.
Lay flat to dry.
