Carved Mug

Description

Handmade pottery mugs are especially great for that first cup of morning coffee or hot tea! I throw my mugs on the wheel and alter them by carving into the paneled areas. Drawing inspirations from nature, I welcome the user to connect with my pottery during every day use.

I fire my work in a soda kiln to Cone 10 using stoneware and porcelain clays. Nearing the end of the firing, I spray a soda solution into the kiln, which then vaporizes and lands on the pots. This creates the variations in tones that you see from side to side on each piece.

Exterior: Varied Tones of Blue/Teal/Aqua Green carved area, other sides are varied tones of whites, reds, peaches and browns in the side panels
