A handmade confetti of fine gemstones, in colors as vibrant as carnival, is crowned with a stunning amethyst briolette.

I built this bracelet around a faceted 19mm teardrop briolette of fine purple amethyst. This is a great rock: a velvety mid-purple, beautifully cut and with a lovely sparkle; weighing in at just over 15 carats.

I hung the big amethyst from a sturdy chain of sterling silver, and then decorated the links with a clustered celebration of purple amethyst, green peridot, golden citrine, and wine red garnet. Each stone is hand-wrapped in shiny sterling wire, for a lot of movement. They're fun to play with.

The bracelet is about 8.5 (21.25 cm) long, and is finished with a swansneck hook and eye clasp in Hill Tribes silver.

All of the gemstones on this bracelet are natural rocks. Some have been heated to enhance their beauty.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February, peridot for August, and garnet for January.

Purple, green, and gold have been the colors of New Orleans Mardi Gras since 1892. You can probably guess what inspired the wine red.
