Description

The Jewelry Maker’s Guide to Copyrights, Trademarks and Protecting Your Designs!

Pop in this audio CD and learn about copyrights, trademarks and protecting your designs. Listen to one track at a time or listen the whole thing at once. Listen to the CD while you craft, listen to it in your car, or listen to it at the gym!

As an attorney for artists and entrepreneur and a jeweler, I often speak on the topic of legal issues intellectual property rights of artists. After my seminars, attendees often approach me and thank me for clarifying some aspects of the law. Some people simply find it easier to learn by hearing a discussion, rather than reading articles or books.

I recently participated a conference call interview hosted by Dr. David Weiman, a psychologist and an internationally-known authority on the marketing and selling of handcrafted jewelry. Prior to the interview, Dr. Weiman collected questions from jewelry makers. The 60 minutes interview was recorded on a CD and now it’s available to all.

Among many topics discussed on the CD:

1) What are the differences between copyrights and trademarks?
2) What if a client and a jeweler coordinate on a design? Who owns the design?
3) What if you see jewelry for sale online with a copyright notice? What if you’re already making something similar?
4) What if someone accuses you of copying a design, and you didn’t?
5) What is the “Poor Man’s Copyright”?
6) What if I buy a kit or a tutorial and want to use this information to make and sell my own jewelry?
7) What should I do if a magazine wants to publish my work?
8) What if I want to make art out of pre-existing material like an up-cycled record album cover?
9) What about advertising laws and describing my jewelry?

If you’ve been wondering about one or more of these topics, now is your chance to hear an attorney and a doctor of marketing discuss these important issues!

No worries, for the sake of your eardrums, I do NOT sing on this CD.
