This painting was part of my exhibit at The Gallery of Contemporary Art at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs, between May 2 - June 7, 2008. Inspired by the landscape at La Mina Falls, at El Yunque Tropical forest, Puerto Rico. After a forty five minutes hike on La Mina Trail, in the El Yunque rain forest, Puerto Rico, you will find La Mina falls. These falls drops over 35 feet into an exquisite pool filled with refreshing mountain waters, where you can feel the mist, and see sunlight, drifting throughout the dense vegetation. Details, texture, depth, and colors... All combined to provide the atmosphere of this beautiful, and refreshing mystic place.

I often like to play with hidden images and iconography within my paintings. You can find a couple of hidden figures within this beautiful landscape.

I painted a semi-bust of an elder Taíno Indian (a Story Teller) within the water falls, in remembrance of the Taínos Indians. His countenance bares the suffering they endured under the cruelty of the Conquistadors. His eyes, searching for memories of his beloved “Borikén”, as his cry for freedom turns into whispers within the sound of the crashing water at La Mina’s Falls.
