Frittilaire Imperiale (Crown Flower)

Description

With Crown Flower I was reaching for antique and ornate. She is a small quilt (45" square) but has a big presence. You can hang her over a fireplace, or use her on a table with a big vase of flowers in the middle. I hand dyed all the materials. The flowers are hand painted on cotton and appliqued to a hand dyed silk dupioni background. The applique is done by hand. The quilting is done with a golden metallic thread at 16 stitches to the inch, which gives a subdued gilded antique feeling to the quilt. The back of the quilt is a hand dyed crimson silk charmeuse. As with all my quilts, Crown Flower is one of a kind and will never be duplicated. She has appeared in quilt shows in Hawaii (Wailoa Center and Merry Monarch Festival) and Portland, Maine.
