Pale Berries, a pocket fairy tale. art book

Description

This is a handmade book incorporating many of my loves: fairytales, sewing, found objects, and some embroidery.

This handmade book has fabric-wrapped covers and a hand-stitched spine. Inside are four pages containing my original fairytale, "Pale Berries," illustrated with four collages in separate pages. Each collage is an original piece, made with freehand machine embroidery on fabric and paper.

The paper I used to make the collages is handmade (not by me, though!). You can also find pages of a half-destroyed vintage book I rescued from the bin. Securely attached to the cover is a porcelain vintage doll.

This is a one-of-a-kind piece. I will make other books from the fairy tale Pale Berries, but it will never be the same as this one.

I write all my own fairytales.

Measurements: 14 cm or 5.5 inches high and 10.5 cm or 4.1 inches wide.

Pale Berries

In the woods the Hale and Hearty Gardener's first granddaughter Alicia kept a strawberry patch that everyone agreed produced the sweetest berries they had ever tasted.

At thirteen, because of an unfortunate accident involving a top hat and a monocycle, Alicia passed away. That night, from the woods the villagers heard a chorus of delicate sobbing.

When, at the first light of dawn, the Hale and Hearty Gardener came to check, he found that the strawberries had cried their colors out. The earth was red as blood.
