Laundry - Solar Plate Etching

This charming scene was one that I saw in rural South Africa, on a trip to visit my family. The different garments, blowing in the breeze, made a very appealing composition.

It is a print made from a solar plate.
Image size: 8 1/2" x 2 1/2"
Paper size: 13" x 6"
It is printed on rag paper with Akua archival ink.

There are several steps to making a solar plate. First you make a drawing on a transparency. The transparency is put over the solar plate and the plate is exposed to UV light. The light burns the image onto the plate. The plate is then washed off and hardened again in UV light. Next the plate is inked, wiped and covered with a damp piece of paper, and run through the printing press. The press transfers the image from the plate to the paper.
