The Madame Du Barry Neck Ruff - Absinthe
Description
Marie-Jeanne Bécu, Comtesse du Barry was the last "maîtresse en titre" (Mistress) of Louis XV of France. She also fell victim to the Guillotine's blade during the Reign of Terror amidst the French Revolution. This lovely pleated choker/ruff, named after the lovely mistress herself, is comprised of a wonderfully crisp ombre taffeta ribbon in colors that fade from absinthe green in the center, to almost ivory at the edges.
In the center of the box pleats, runs a narrow length of french rococo ribbon braid in pale ivory.
At each end of the choker are two flirty bows of the same Absinthe green taffeta, and can be worn to the back, side, or center front. Any way looks fabulous!
The ribbon bow ends are cut (or 'pinked') in scallops just as it was popular to do during the 18th century.
In the center of each bow there are faux mother-of-pearl buttons.
An elastic, hand dyed in a green color matching the taffeta, secures the choker around the wearer's neck by looping around the opposite button.
This is not only a pretty way to secure it, but the elastic allows for a little bit of room for various neck sizes.
