Here is something I couldn't live without! This Soap Saver , or Soap Sack, is hand crocheted using 100% mercerized crochet cord. You can put a whole, brand new bar of soap in it, and use it for scrubbing in the bath and the shower. Just hang it up when you're finished, and it air dries and is ready for the next use.

For the really thrifty, this sack is perfect for saving bits and pieces of soap. I have one hanging by the bathtub at all times. Once a bar of soap is too small or thin to use, into the sack it goes. As the soap sack is used for washing, the bits and pieces all meld together into a multi scented unit! One of those old-fashioned, truly tightwad items that stands the test of time. Because it air dries, the soap doesn't go to waste, and the soap sack stays clean and doesn't mildew.

This soap sack is made with crochet cord, which is a finer weight than the yarn used for knit washcloths. The finer weight cord, or yarn, allows the sack to dry out quickly. Soap sacks made of thicker yarn tend to take too long to dry, and your precious bar of soap or scraps turns to a big pile of mush. Not so in this case.

These also make nice soap holder drawer fresheners. My mom always used to unwrap a bar of soap and put it in her dresser drawers to keep clothes smelling nice. Put a bar in this pretty drawstring bag and tuck it in with your socks and undies for a lovely fresh smell.

I made this soap sack to hold a 4.5 oz bath sized bar of soap, so smaller soaps should also fit nicely. It's fairly stretchy, and will accommodate many shapes and sizes.
