BLACK TREASURE BREAST - Handbuilt Container with Marble - Earthenware Clay with Oxides, Four Direction Symbols

What can I say! It's more than just a lidded box...a mountain? Or...maybe it's Persephone's breast. (Remember the Greek goddess who was abducted into the underworld for 6 months of each year?) Well, here she is, arising from darkness, one nurturing breast at a time, signifying the return of light even when the days are getting shorter. You go girl!

Almost black! This clay is a little more difficult to work with but the way the oxide shows off the imprinted symbols is unusual, sort of reverse effect. The inside of this piece has a blend of blue and brown glazes. The outside is imprinted with patterns from different rollers and wheels that I've made out of plaster, clay or bone.

Approx. 5 1/4" wide by 6" tall, it has a big glass marble which is secured into the top depression with silicone glue. (Actually it isn't glued in yet because I want to try some other colors on the top and will add a new pic when I do.) Yes, you're right. I momentarily lost my marbles...
