Maidenhair Stained Glass Art Quilt with Sunprint 8x10

"Maidenhair Stained Glass" Mini Art Quilt 8"x10" in size.

This an another art quilt I made like one that has traveled to many quilt shows. This one is much smaller that my "Stained Glass and Ferns". The center of the piece is a sunprint of a Maidenhair fern frond with a butterfly on cotton fabric painted in medium shades of blue, pink and green. The sunprint is framed by a border of stained glass pieced painted fabrics. I cut the pieces from quilt sandwiches, and satin stitched them together with black thread for the stained glass look. The fabrics in the stained glass border were remains from trimming some of my sunprints. Free motion quilting in clear thread accents the sunprint. The stained glass border is quilted using clear thread in a heart vine design. Edges are bound with a black yarn couched on. Display in a frame, mount on an artist canvas, or display on it's own.

This is made in what I call my "Sandwich" method. I begin by fusing fabric to both sides of a batting, then cut, butt edges together, and satin stitch the seams. Many designs are possible this way. The inner border was made with my fused crazy patch. The batting is backed, and then I randomly fuse scraps of fusible backed fabrics I have been hoarding. In some I have added soft colored painted fabrics for more of a marble-like look.
