This necklace is my entry for the June Etsy Beadweavers' Challenge. The theme this month is "humor." My entry features a champagne cork cap with a portrait of Madame Clicquot, the widow of the founder of the champagne company now known as Veuve Clicquot ("Widow Clicquot"). She was born Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin and was widowed at age 27. She took over the company and developed techniques for improving champagne production. She died in 1866.

What's funny about that? Nothing. But several years ago, I made myself a similar pendant with seed pearls and a Veuve Clicquot cap. One day, I wore it to work, and my friend Maggie said, "Is that your mother?" It just cracked me up and does every time I wear it--that hairdo!

So for this OOAK version of the pendant, I dolled up Mme. Clicquot with gold and garnet glass seed beads. It reminds me of the miniature portraits royal people wear, so put on your best duds and pretend this is your ancestor. Or wear it with jeans and a turtleneck as I do mine. In any case, this is to enjoy!

The spiral rope is approximately 18 inches (46 cm) long and has s 2-inch (5 cm) extender sterling silver extender chain for flexibility. A Swarovski crystal dangles from the chain. The pendant is about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm); the backing is suede.
