The name is luxurious gem is derived from the Greek word amethyston, meaning "not drunk or not to intoxicated”. Which led to the belief that drinking wine from an amethyst cup would prevent drunkenness, this is why wine was preferably served in Amethyst beakers. Amethyst is the best known and most valuable form of quartz. Its color is caused by iron or manganese compound impurities in the mineral. Amethyst was thought to protect soldiers, ensure victory, aid hunters, protect against diseases, control evil thoughts, and quicken ones intelligence. It is considered to be a surface cure for headaches and toothaches; and is also used to increase spirituality. Amethyst is a wonderful affordable purple gemstone. It is given as a symbol of sincerity, security, and peace of mind and it is traditionally symbolize royalty and aristocracy.
