Grand Canyon Cactus Magic Lantern Light

This hand-tinted Magic Lantern Slide taken in the Grand Canyon in the early 1900's still conveys the beauty of the natural world as vibrantly as the day it was created. This slide comes from a tiny collection I recently acquired of hand-tinted images from the Grand Canyon which were likely used for instructional purposes.

I have carefully disassembled and transformed this stunning hand-colored slide into a beautiful and unique night light. All the stained glass work and soldering has been done by me in my in-house studio. The glass work in this piece measures approximately 5" tall by x 3" wide and is securely soldered to the light base which will work with a standard US two-prong outlet.

I have used a vibrant green strip of glass on the base of the slide and topped it with subtle striated red stained glass and a trio of gold colored cabochons to compliment the tones in the slide itself. Though the illumination of the bulb enlivens the entire piece, this light looks just as beautiful off as it does aglow.
