Dear Cousin Hilton - 1918, Handwritten Letter from WWI US Soldier in France
Description
Dear Cousin Hilton,Received your most welcome letter yesterday and was glad to hear from you....
--------------
Own a small piece of US history! This is an original, handwritten letter with its original envelope from Private W.E. Fuller of the American Expeditionary Forces to his cousin Mr. Hilton Fitch. Fuller was stationed in Jouchary Haute Marne, France during WWI. Cousin Hilton resided in Shinhopple, Delaware County, NY, a tiny village about halfway between Binghamton and Monticello.
The letter is postmarked Dec. 12, 1918, although the letter itself is dated as Dec. 3, 1919. I think poor cousin Walt forgot what year it was - he may have been distracted by the war raging around him.
It is written on YMCA stationery, upon which is printed "ON ACTIVE SERVICE WITH THE AMERICAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCES".
Aside from the postmark, the envelope is also marked with a stamp "PASSED AS CENSORED", which has written over the top "OK" and a signature.
The envelope is somewhat tattered, but the letter itself is in very good condition for its age.
The letter is 4 pages long. The actual dimensions of the stationery are 5.5" X 8.25". (14cm X 21cm)
