The thread on this vintage, handmade placemat set is so soft and shiny it looks like silk. Meticulously hand embroidered with the Kensington stitch (also known as long and short stitch) the varigated shading of the blue thread is perfect. Notice how the scallops on the buttonhole stitched edge turn in to the pure linen fabric. This is a set of two tray cloths, one measuring 11"x16" and the smaller one, which may be a napkin, measures 8x11. This may also be called a breakfast set.
