Description

The Arctic Tern is a seabird that sees two summers each year as it migrates from its northern breeding grounds to the oceans around Antarctica and back (about 24,000 miles) each year. This is the longest regular migration by any known animal.

This relief tile is hand pressed in stoneware and glazed in four colors. The body of the tern is white, with black on the head, wing tips and recessed areas, emphasizing its sculptural dimension. It's beak and feet are accented in orange. The background of the tile is glazed in turquoise.

Tile measures roughly 5 and 5/8 inches high by 5 and 5/8 inches wide and is about 5/8 of an inch thick at the edges to over an inch deep at its thickest point.

It is notched on the back so it can hang on a nail.
